Big money, no whammies!
[Press Your Luck game show]
A whammie was a little demon/elf/imp/gremlin that would come
out and erase your winnings tally. So, when people would press their plunger
thingie to spin the thing that did some other thing with the Big Board,
they would yell No whammies! No whammies! In our modern age,
people often say this as a measure of luck before doing a task where evil
might befall them. Picture starting your car when you realize you left the
lights on all night. You get the picture.
