Huell Howser is the host of the television program “California Gold” and “California Parks Gold.” He brings to the show an odd, infectious enthusiasm that you’re 50% sure immediately evaporates when the camera is turned off, but you hope it doesn’t, as cheesy as it is. His voice is like a magnet. I tend to use the show’s ending tagline when presented with uniquely “Californian” moments that would never appear on the show, like being hustled for change from 15-year-old pseudo-homeless pseudo-hippies in Berkeley.
